September Is Now Live (In Draft) – Read It Free

For more than 35 years I’ve been on the road across Southern Africa, watching landscapes quietly change people. This year I started turning those days into a 12‑volume book series:

A Year in Motion – 365 Days in Southern AfricaOne book per month. One chapter per day. Each chapter a single, real moment.

Some chapters follow journeys with guests; others come from days alone on the road. All are real. No fiction. Just the country as I’ve seen it from the front seat, the stoep, the saddle, and the cockpit.

Today I can say this:September (Volume 9) is complete in draft form – and you can now read it free on this site.

What September Holds

September is my favourite month in Southern Africa. In these pages you’ll find:

• A dawn walk on the Hermanus cliff path when the ocean holds its breath

• A single Keurbooms river day: kids on an old board, parents exhaling

• An afternoon under Cederberg cliffs and in San rock art shelters

• Horses on a white beach at last light

• A West Coast birthday in the place where your own memory began

• One night beside a waterhole, listening to lions breathe

• A desert drive to stone houses at the edge of nowhere

Each chapter is not a full itinerary of the day, but one specific activity or moment that carried the weight of that day: a boat morning, a walk, a fire, a ledge, a footprint, a goodbye.

Why I’m Sharing the Draft

This is not yet the final, printed book. It’s the complete draft of Volume 9—what I call “field‑ready”:

• All thirty September days represented

• Each chapter edited enough to read smoothly

• Still open to small refinements before final publication

I’m making it freely available now because I’d like you to travel through it with me while the ink is still fresh.

If you’ve travelled with me before, you may recognise your own morning, your river bend, your lion sighting in these pages. If you haven’t, September will give you a clear sense of what a month on the road here can feel like, one lived moment at a time.
